At that time, three robbers on a motorcycle came from behind and snatched both mobile phones simultaneously. They then sped away.
Dr Ashish informed his staff and other police officials about the incident. Soon after, several senior officers and police personnel from various police stations converged at the spot. The police formed several teams to identify and arrest the looters and recover the mobile phones.
Sources said that the police recovered one of the mobile phones from a nearby spot on Wednesday morning. Police are also learnt to have detained two main suspects in connection with the loot.
The search for the third miscreant and the second mobile phone continues.
According to Habibganj police station in-charge Sanjeev Chauksey, several teams have been formed to nab the miscreants and recover the mobile phones. He said the police will soon arrest the looters.
Meanwhile, a political storm also erupted over the blatant incident, with the opposition Congress launching a scathing attack on the BJP state government over the law-and-order situation in the state.
The Congress alleged that when the IG (Intelligence), who is responsible for monitoring criminal activities, law and order issues, and reporting inputs directly to the state government, can himself fall prey to such street crimes, there can be no expectation regarding the safety and security of the common people.
